Why be a Puppet on a String ??

In life you come across various people with different personalities. While, some might have an optimistic outlook to life the others might be dreadfully pessimistic. Therefore IMO these vast spectrum of people can be differentiated on one main factor which is self-confidence.
Are there other factors to differentiate such people in your opinion?

Self-confidence is not something that you can purchase. It is something that you should cultivate in yourself over the years. In my eyes I think that the lack of self-confidence is the root cause for people to end up becoming puppets whose lives are controlled by others. Pleasing others in order to avoid conflict is the sole purpose in the life for such people.

IMO there are two types of people who fall into this category. Some of them are born to be ruled by others as they prefer getting others to make their decisions and others have turn out to be like that due to a traumatic experience in life (i.e. a bad childhood etc.) Do you think that there are any other reasons behind this??

In my view I think that life is useless if you can not make your own decisions and lead your own life. What do you think??

I hope that all such people will STOP and ponder on their lives and realise the pathetic situation they have committed their own lives to and that they will be able to figure out their self-worth.

Take charge of your lives before it’s too late !!

Well some people do have all the self confidence required, however they cannot be bothered making their own decisions. They prefer to be pampered by others and blame whatever goes wrong in their life on others.

Therefore self confidence or the lack of it is not the reason for being a puppet. Some people love to be on the strings rather than on their two feet and they let the pupeteer lead them on rather than leading themselves on...
Hmmm Dark Horse, you do have a point. I guess some people prefer to get a free ride and evade the majority of the trials and tribulations life throws at them.

lack of confidence could be one reason, but there are many more why people do not (and sometimes, won't; and sometimes can't) make decisions for themselves...

Anyways, how would you define an optimist and a pessimist?

Found an old piece of paper (quotes, for some reason written by my grandmother) which went thus
"The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The realist adjusts the sails"...

Sometimes compromise is the only way out...
Hmmm…. Mahisha, I would define and optimist as a person how as a positive outlook to life and a pessimist as a person who is very negative about things. Your quote sure sums what I was trying to say

Well, in my view Indyana I think that it is vital to have compromise but at the same time I believe that life it is worthless if you just say “yes” to everything just for the sake of compromise. I think that is always best to voice your opinion where necessary.
