Life's Realisation

To some marriage seems the “Be All” and “End All” and to others it seems a status symbol. Why on earth is that the case heaven only know….. I am not referring to the couples who have been carrying on for a long period of time and then ventured into marriage. In my eyes such people are wise coz I think its best to get to know the person properly before taking that big leap. Many Sri Lanka’s stick to traditions and get married through proposals without getting to know the other person properly. But, I guess getting married via proposals is part and parcel of some people’s culture and I guess their mind frames are trained from their tender years. I seriously can’t see myself ever getting married through a proposal coz there is quite a lot of unknown elements in the picture. Then again it’s not only in proposals that people hardly get to know each other before getting married… Well, I personally have nothing against marriage. I read in the “Sunday Times” newspaper last week (26th Nov 2006) that some Sri Lankan students out of a group of fellow students were refused visas to UK on flimsy grounds. Apparently they had applied for visas in order to attend their convocation in UK. It’s really disgusting to see how we Sri Lankan’s are treated with little or No respect at every side we turn. Well, I am not oblivious to the fact that there are quite a number of illegal immigrants from Sir Lanka. But then again it’s not fair to measure everyone with the same yard stick…. I really don’t understand how on earth the real culprits wriggle their way through the embassy while the genuine people get rejected. Money sure talks in today’s world and the innocent just get steam rolled….. In fact I know a person who applied for a Schengen visa at the French Embassy, in order to travel to Spain on a holiday to visit her uncle but was rejected on both occasions that she applied. Most of us have been brought up in a manner that we tend to scorn people who don’t belong to our so called social circles. This is so damn stupid as all of us rich or poor, black or white, church goer or heathen, Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim or Burgher are all HUMAN BEINGS…. Why can’t most of us comprehend this fact that stares us right in the face???? Who the hell are we fooling by building up so many man-made barriers between fellow human beings?? Well, all I can say is that such pompous people who consider themselves superior to others are nothing but Pigheaded… Better yet in most occasions it is such people that they scorn that come to their assistance in their time of need. I hope that all of us will take the time to put in that extra effort to treat every human being with respect because you will always reap what you sow….

Its just unimaginable how fickle life is. We could be here today and gone tomorrow but worse yet is when someone we really love departs from us. Well, I have experienced the sense of loss at a very tender age. It has taught me to value each moment coz “Tomorrow My Never Come”. Sometimes it is really scary to think of how uncertain life is coz it makes you very sensitive to life. But I guess when the inevitable happens we just have to be strong and carryon. Just as everything is uncertain the only other certain thing is that one day we all have to bid farewell to this world…….. We all have to be constantly prepared to exist this world because our last hour is unknown. I just hope and pray that all of us will be able to live more meaningful lives and live life while it is ours to live. Leave no room for regrets because an opportunity once lost is lost forever….

Life sure is strange at times coz at one minute you may be overjoyed and at the other you may feel like a rag….. And Gosh not to mention life is so complicated… At times it’s simply exhausting to think about the future. Don’t any of you out there worry about the future???
